YouTube’s power to distribute ideas

Have just watched Fitna, the movie Dutch MP Geert Wilders posted on YouTube in which he denounces the Koran. In the 5 days since it was posted on March 27 (I wrote this post April 1), Fitna has been watched 835,137 times, which must be a record in terms of the number of views in such a short space of time. It also has attracted 35,866 comments. The big numbers demonstrate the power of a movie as a propaganda medium. A large number of related videos are on YouTube, as people react and comment. Would be fascinating to track how people have learned about the film. This topic will give researchers material for years to come.
